Esperanza Trejo, 12, finished first overall in the Gold Division at Missouri Southern State University on Saturday, helping the Lady Red Dogs finish 4th overall. She also became the third female at SHS to break 20 minutes in the 5k, with a time of 19:57.75
She said that even though she was running by herself she still had a lot of fun.
“I was shocked that I beat the 20-minute mark” she also said that, “when I got my medal from my coach he was making me laugh even though I was tired I could get a little laughter out. Also seeing the medal left me stunned. Being in the front made me scared because I thought that I would get lost or even off the course.”
