Social Studies Teacher Hannah Mhoon was chosen as the high school recipient of the Ozark Guidance 2020-21 Mental Health Champion Award.

Mhoon was nominated by her colleagues who emphasized her dedication to her students’ mental wellbeing. English teacher Josh Davis said Mhoon is always checking in on her students’ wellbeing.
“She provides them blankets for comfort in her classroom as well as providing alternative lighting,” Davis said. “She also has created the yoga club to foster mindfulness and meditation.”
French teacher Erin Kemp said Mhoon is an educator of the whole child.
“She cares deeply for their mental health,” she said. “As a former social worker, she understands mental health issues. In her classroom, she teaches students about managing stress, coping skills, anger management and more. All of her students feel welcome and loved.”
Not only does Mhoon focus on the mental wellbeing of her students, she also helps her co-workers manage stress. Journalism teacher Susannah Swearingen said Mhoon’s positive attitude made her the ideal candiate for the award.
“Hannah models coping skills and stress management with her students and colleagues every day,” she said. “She’s the one you want to talk to if you are feeling down, stressed, or just need some words of encouragement.”
